All the Single Loners

Materials and Methodology: Black and red spraypaint, Sharpie, stencil, little brother to keep watch.

Location: Wall in the alley behind the shopping center across from Park Place Mall. You know, the one with McDonald's, the former Petland store, the karate school, Austin's ice cream parlor, a Malaysian restaurant, a bike store.... Also, if you drive up Wendrew Lane to the end of the cul de sac, you will see a little alleyway with some of those stripey poles. There's a sign that says "Syzygy this way <3" as pictured above. You should then be able to find it.

This was the very first project I did with spraypaint directly on the wall. Obviously it's not that great. The girl has wonky eyes and is floating. The guy isn't sitting on anything. The popular girl is about to fall off of her deformed football player boyfriend. Oh well, it's the thought behind it that counts.

All The Single Loners.

This is for the boy who chases after the popular girl who dates jerks- she is not good enough for you. For the girl who is totally right for this mistaken guy- let him know you are there.

You do have a soul mate. You just aren't looking in the right place. And maybe you'll find them in a week, or maybe in ten years. Maybe you know them now, and the two of you will bump into each other on the street in a decade or a month. Go for lunch and catch up.

Valentine's Day is the day to tell people how you feel! I don't give a care if you're afraid of rejection, you don't think you're good enough, or you get all flustery when you try to talk to them. Proclaim your love. Just do it.

So what if you do get rejected? Another person just did too. Go out on the town and find them.

Graffiti Is Bad

Materials and Methodology: Sharpie. Done while looking totally nonchalant, waiting for a bus, all behind the cover of my backpack, AND sitting a foot away from an Asian lady. I told you I was sneaky.

Location: Bus stop bench right by Time Market, on University Blvd and 3rd Avenue.

You guys should be proud of me for getting my titles back to being syzygys. It is harder than it looks.

Restroom Readers Anonymous

 

Materials and Methodology: Sharpie. Scribbled hurriedly while some one was outside waiting for the chicken.

Location: Epic Cafe's restroom above the soap dispenser. On the SW corner of University Blvd and 4th Ave. 

A Dill of a Day

Materials and Methodology: IKEA paper tablecloth, acrylic paint, Sharpie, my wry mind. Dried for long hours with a hairdryer, with which I very nearly burnt the house down. Wheatpasted with assistance from my brother, whose alias in my postings will be Watson.

Location: The back corner of that little strip mall on the North side of Speedway, just East of Swan. 

This is probably my favorite piece so far. The idea came to me while I was contemplating In-N-Out burger's secret menu, don't ask me why.

I'm still getting used to the very temperamental and low-quality materials I use, which provides interesting results when I'm painting. A lot of the time the paper will get too wet and risk buckling or tearing. Painting with too much water will let the pattern on the paper come through and makes things much less realistic, which I actually rather enjoy. Don't you?

I know, I know, the name is an alliteration. But sometimes you just can't say what you want to in a syzygy. I don't really like the name, so if anyone has any suggestions, comment comment comment!
